Project Proposal
Research and Bibliography
Before the transition, it was call the Indian Walk In Center. Growing up I was always involved with the Urban Indian Center (UIC). Every summer I would get up early and ride my bike to the closest Trax station and ride straight to the UIC just for free tutoring for summer school classes. We had many evens every year, every so often a powwow was held for each holiday that came up. My insparation came to me when I wanted to give back to my Native American community as they did for me when I was growing up. I wanted to be a influential role model to those growing up who had less than I did when I was their age.

Final Project
As my project came to a start every Tuesday night, other AMES students and myself lead a seven and younger aged class for children who wanted to explore their native culture through arts and crafts. The children were a handful for the hour they were with us, but in the end their creative minds reflected through their abilities to complete the project for that night. Some of the smaller arts we crafted together were breast plates, valentines cards, bracelets, drum making, dream catchers, and lots of other fun projects. Once we finished our session together the girls would be taught to dance traditionally and the boys would be taught to sing and play the drum.
